A Winnie the Pooh Christmas Tail – December 1st-23rd – Valley Youth Theatre

“A Winnie the Pooh Christmas Tail” has been a favorite for many valley families for years. This annual event has been put on by the Valley Youth Theatre for the last 22 years. The story is a touching “tail” of friendship, loyalty and joy as Pooh, Piglet, Roo and the rest of the gang hunt for Eeyore’s tail – just in time for Christmas. The cute production features musical performances and skilled dancers. Historically, tickets for weekend performances sell out quickly so it’s important to get your tickets online early. The Nutcracker – December 8th-24th – Ballet Arizona and the Phoenix Symphony

The Nutcracker is a must-see holiday tradition that will capture the hearts and imaginations of the whole family. The show includes top notch sets, creative costuming and over 150 performers including Ballet Arizona’s nationally recognized dancers. Although The Nutcracker is performed the world over, Ballet Arizona’s production has made a big name for itself. Alastair Macaulay with the New York Times states, “Ballet Arizona’s ‘Nutcracker’ is one of the three finest productions of the nearly 20 I’ve seen across America.” This year, Ballet Arizona is excited to announce that they will be accompanied by the renowned Phoenix Symphony, with live music adding to the appeal of the show. Las Noches De Las Luminarias – November 24th – December 30th – Desert Botanical Garden

More than 8,000 hand lit luminarias will line the paths of the Desert Botanical Garden for 21 magical nights this holiday season. The luminarias will be accompanied by thousands of strands of twinkle lights and stunning sculptures created by Japanese artist Jun Kaneko. Don’t worry about your ears, there is also plenty of treats to hear at Las Noches De Las Luminarias. There are 10 unique entertainment ensembles on rotation throughout the event, including local favorite Simply Three. Dinner will also be available in the gardens so you can enjoy some fare while you take in the sights and sounds of the evening. This event is extremely popular, so it is advised you purchase your tickets online prior to arriving at the garden. Holiday Cabaret – December 15th – 21st – Phoenix Theatre

Two separate holiday events are taking place at the Phoenix Theatre this year, “Chrizmaz With the Good Feelz” and “A Swingin’ Christmas”. “Chrizmaz With the Good Feelz” is a festive celebration of song! The Phoenix Theatre website describes the performance as ranging “from heartwarming to humorous, jazz to pop, and new to nostalgic” and ensures that these tunes are sure to put you in the “Chrizmaz” spirit! “A Swingin’ Christmas” also features holiday classics, but with a swingin’ twist. Black Nativity – December 1st – 17th – The Black Theatre Troupe

Written by legendary Harlem Renaissance poet Langston Hughes, this stunning production is a masterpiece worth paying attention to. Black Nativity is a retelling of the Christian Christmas story, however, stars an all-black cast. The play delivers a powerful message of hope, victory, joy and liberation, perfect for the joyous holiday season.
